About us

Welcome to the Department of Medicine and Bioregulatory Science at Kyushu University. Our department was originally established on 1916 as “The Third Department of Internal Medicine”, and reorganized as “Department of Medicine and Bioregulatory Science”, in Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University. As one of three departments of general internal medicine in Kyushu University, we all pursue our own areas of expertise with a comprehensive background of internal medicine.

Our department have three missions as follows;

  • 1) For patients; to offer the specialized medical cares in Kyushu University Hospital, an advanced treatment hospital.
  • 2) For education; to train the highly-motivated next-generation leaders with strong background of basic and/or clinical medicines.
  • 3) For science; to pursue the original basic researches to be translated to the innovative medical care.

Currently, we have five research laboratories; 1) Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes, 2) Hematology, 3) Hepatology, 4) Pancreatology, and 5) Gastroenterology. We encourage the close interactions between basic and clinical researchers with different expertise, and collaborative works among laboratories, so that we understand the disease pathophysiology and develop the preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic strategies with cross-disciplinary keywords, such as chronic inflammation, epigenetics, genomics, metabolomics, metagenomics, and organ network etc..

Through the Japanese/English website, you will learn more about our research activities in the Department of Medicine and Bioregulatory Science at Kyushu University.
