We will perform translational medical sciences and train the next-generation physician scientists in the interface between Gastroenterology and Metabolism, which may be referred to as “Metabolic Gastroenterology”.

Department of Gastroenterology and Metabolism has been established in the Graduate School of Medical Sciences on December 1, 2019, so that we try to develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for metabolic diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, and dyslipidemia, from the viewpoint of Gastroenterology. Accordingly, we conduct both basic and clinical researches on the multi-organ network originating from the gastrointestinal tract, through the multi-omics approaches such as genomics, epigenetics, metabolomics, and proteomics, and through the state-of-the-art techniques in Gastroenterology; endoscopic instruments and endoscopic biopsy specimens. In collaboration with Department of Medicine and Bioregulatory Science, we wish to pursue translational medical sciences bridging basic and clinical research outcomes and to train the next-generation physician scientists in the interface between Gastroenterology and Metabolism, which may be referred to as “Metabolic Gastroenterology”.
